Hogston's Strike Secures The Points
By Web Master
Acle United extended their recent run of winning results with a 1-0 win over Hellesdon, courtesy of a fabulous free kick strike from Dan Hogston.
Manager Challen was again missing a number of first team regulars but inspired by skipper Ricky Forder in midfield, the A's cut out another deserved three points. In truth there was little between the teams on the day as both sides could have scored a number of goals but the home side always looked the more likely to take the points.
A cold blustery wind made conditions difficult to contend with, but there was no such problem for Hogston as he rifled the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out following a free kick to Acle, just 10 minutes into the game.
In a fairly even first half Mann shot over for the visitors, before the dangerous Simpson shot narrowly wide, but Hellesdon should have equalised when Foreman lost possession in his box before brilliantly recovering to maintain the status quo.
The teams turned around with United maintaining a slender advantage, but man of the match Simpson almost got the Norwich side back on terms as his turn of pace led to his rasping shot skimming the crossbar.
Acle were looking dangerous down the right flank as substitute Thacker was creating all sorts of problems, and after making space for himself he drove the ball across the face of the goal needing just a touch for 2-0.
At the other end Pantry shot wide of goal, before the busy Tooley showed great maturity to play in Hogston who was fractionally high with his dink over the bar.
McKenzie almost turned the ball into his own net but Foreman was on hand to save the day which would have been cruel luck on the centre half who was having a good game in defence.
Young Jimmy Everett showed plenty of maturity when on as a substitute for Daniel Foreman, as Acle began to boss the game looking to double their advantage.
Efforts from Thacker, Smith and Kelf underlined the Acle dominance, before the latter almost finished a sweeping one two with Thacker to put the result beyond doubt.
With the home league programme now complete the A's would like to thank Reeves and Gerdes for all their hard work on the bag and congratulate the former for achieving ten devoted years’ service looking after the players.
