Blofield Triumph in Local Derby
By Web Master
Acle United lost their local derby at Blofield by 3-1 in a match they really should have won.
Manager Challen paraded two new signings for the game, but had to do with the loss five first team players.
The A's kicked off with a strong wind at their backs in front of another large Yarmouth Road crowd.
Acle began the game playing some neat football pushing their opponents back as Blofield had to defend a succession of corners and a host of chances in the first half that should have seen United four or five up at the break.
Diggens played in Coleto Colo but his shot screamed inches over the bar before Tooley shot just wide of the upright. Foreman saw his free kick touched on goalwards and only a brilliant save from Stones in the home goal prevented the visitors taking the league.
The Blofield keeper then made another majestic stop at the foot of his post before Oliver at the other end rattled the woodwork as the Beavers began to come to the party. Acle had missed a succession of chances, no more so than when Tooley's point blank header was kept out by man of the Match Stone in the home goal.
However, possession of the football doesn't always convert chances, and Blofield took the lead against the run of play when Fryer slid the ball into an empty net from a cross inside the 6-yard box.
New boy Bull-Anthony almost equalised but another save from Stone kept the Beavers in front to the break at 1-0.
In the second half Tooley had another effort cleared off the line, but against the run of play the lively Oliver benefited from a rather fortunate rebound to put him in the clear and he made no mistake to put the Beavers 2-0 up.
Referee Venables frustrated both teams with a number of his decisions, and with time running away Tooley beat his man out wide before crossing for Coleto Colo to rifle the ball home.
With the A's pushing on for the equaliser, May scored in the dying seconds to give the Beavers the result they were looking for and left Acle to reflect that once again numerous chances were created but only one taken, as the two teams prepare for the return next week at Bridewell Lane.
