Late Howard Goal Secures A Point
Acle United returned from Trafford Park with a well-deserved point following their 1-1 draw with Wroxham Reserves.
United welcomed back Josh Carus to the starting eleven after almost 3 months out, as the two Foreman brothers took charge of matters with Manager Challen unable to attend.
The A's started the brighter of the two sides pushing their young and talented opponents into their own half. Jamie Smith was busy early on as he flashed two shots narrowly wide, before Blythe found Cooper whose stinging volley was inches wide of Foreman's upright.
But once again Santa was in the game for the second week running, as another short pass back saw Scott Foreman hurry his clearance only to the feet of Huckerby, who calmly placed the ball in the back of the net to put his team 1-0 up.
The goal scorer should have really doubled the advantage as a flicked-on header from a corner left him with the goal at his mercy 6 yards out, but his header glanced off the post to safety.
Thacker found Diggens but his header went well over the bar, before Thacker again played a screaming pass across the face of goal that just evaded the on-rushing Smith at full stretch.
Acle had played all the football in the first half and were unlucky to trail at the break by a single goal. Howard came on for Telford, as the second half mirrored the first, with Acle dominating possession in search of an equaliser.
United almost got back on terms when Forder shot over as the ball pinged off the legs of a number of players inside the 6-yard box. Within the space of a minute the same happened at the other end and United had Foreman to thank for a brilliant save from point blank range.
Acle continued to lay siege to the home goal, as Forder won a free kick, but Diggens wasted the chance as he cleared the bar by some distance. Smith was causing problems out wide as United looked as though the equaliser was already scripted, when Smith crashed his shot towards the bottom corner only for the Wroxham keeper to somehow keep the ball out.
But with 10 minutes left on the clock, Acle forced yet another corner, and this time as the ball was cleared to the edge of the box it was Scotty Howard who returned the ball with interest as his shot thumped into the back of the net for 1-1.
Perhaps the feature of the game was the contribution of referee Daniel Apostoale who despite the rain falling throughout, kept the game flowing in a tip top performance with hardly a mistake.
