First Half Goals Settles Game

Acle United returned empty handed from Hilltops as they were comfortably beaten 3-0 by high flying CEYMS.
On a windy afternoon, manager Challen lost Carus in the warm up and with 6 other first team players out, the task looked a tall one.
Early on, the two teams were evenly matched, with Colclough blasting over and Foreman saving brilliantly at the other end. Diggens wasted a cross with all the time in the world, but Kelf put in a fierce shot superbly beaten away by the home keeper.
United old boy Adcock headed over from a corner, before Barham appeared unfortunate to be penalised, which resulted in a quickly taken free kick into the path of Stenner who tucked the ball inside the post for the early lead.
Acle then looked to make the game all square as Smith was delightfully played in by Kelf, but with the keeper to beat, he shot inches wide.
The game took a turn for the worse for Acle when Foreman scuffed his clearance and presented Delaney with an open goal which he gleefully accepted to double the CEYMS lead.
Zandi was having a great game for the Church up front, and it was no surprise to see him capitalise on a defenders’ error to put the game almost beyond the A's.
The teams turned around with CEYMS holding a three-goal advantage and it was evident that some of the United players would need to put their bodies on the line if the deficit was to be erased.
Despite the strong wind now in Acle's favour the Church continued to create chances, before Howard was cautioned for dissent when he threw the ball down in a petulant manner. Diggens worked an opportunity in the box but dragged his shot wide.
Zandi then clipped his shot onto the bar and over before Wiley galloped down the right to unleash a dangerous cross into the 6-yard box. Delany missed an open goal when put clean through, before the rampaging Wiley had a stinging shot saved by Foreman.
United had to call on James Foreman from the bench, but with Challen hampered by a long injury list, competition for places is almost non-existent at present, when perhaps changes need to be made.
