Another Single Goal Defeat

Acle United slumped to a third successive home defeat losing 2-1 to a high-flying Long Stratton team.
United were once again missing a number of key first team players, and had no luck during the first half when losing new recruit Jamie Smith to a bad injury.
Once again, the Bridewell Lane pitch was in perfect condition for the clash and it was the home side that started the brighter forcing Stratton to defend in the opening exchanges.
After 8 minutes Forder gave away a free kick 15 yards outside the box and poor defensive marking let in Nicholls to head home to put the visitors in front.
Colclough was using his long throw to good effect as Smith nodded over. Acle were knocking the ball about with some precision, and from one such move Thacker played in Smith but the onrushing Bilham in the Stratton goal prevented the equaliser as Smith was left badly injured and had to be carried off.
However, it wasn't long before the A's got back on track as Luke Thacker turned his marker and from the edge of the box tucked his shot in the bottom corner for 1-1. Colclough then found Daniel Forman who shot narrowly wide, before Diggens crashed a flick on over the top although he was adjudged offside in the process.
The teams turned around 1-1 at the break but it was the away side that looked more dangerous in the second half. The Stratton winger was making plenty of inroads down the left wing and after ghosting past Kelf, put in a timely cross, and after a defensive block the ball fell to Deakin, who picked his spot to put the visitors up by 2-1.
The match was being played in a downpour, and referee Tyne was being tested as both teams complained at a series of questionable decisions. Thacker was dismissed for a second bookable offence and then a Stratton player was rather hard done by when receiving a straight red to somewhat even matters up at 10 apiece.
Acle introduced new signing Ryan Fisher who impressed all with his poise on the ball, but although Acle pressed strongly for the equaliser, it wasn't to be as Stratton took all 3 points. On this showing some of the Acle players need to man up somewhat, to arrest a worrying slide down the table as the wonderful performance at Downham a wonderful distant memory.
