Diggens Hat-trick Sets Up Comfortable Victory
On the back of a 1-0 reverse against Scole last Saturday a full strength Acle visited a youthful Norwich United side.
Acle made 9 changes from the previous week with the A's manager Kaine Challen and his assistant Kevin Rowark bringing in the experience and energy, of Ricky Forder, the engine room of what was a very fluid and exciting Acle performance.
Acle took the lead on 4 minutes following a 'phase' of play which saw Luke Thacker play in Diggins who riffled the ball into the net with a sharp shot across the keeper. Norwich United troubled the Acle defence just once in the first half, when a Planter's free kick was parried by a resilient Acle defensive wall. A rapid period of passing and movement saw a Foreman throw out into the path of Crane on the halfway line, who passed into the feet of the busy Diggins who scored, to double the visitors lead.
Acle were having the lion’s share of the possession in the first period, and a thunderous shot by Thacker was beaten away by the overworked keeper. Midway into the first half, man of the match Thacker's hard work was rewarded as he cleverly turned his centre half only to see his rasping drive come back off the post before Peacock hit the back of the net to make it 3-0 into the break.
The second half started much the same way as the first. On 46 minutes Acle went 4-0 ahead after great hold up play by that man Thacker again, who then played in Diggins down the right flank who took on the defence to score low down with a left foot shot.
Thacker then unleashed a thunderbolt of a shot from 20 yards out to put Acle 5-0 up and cruising. The A's continued to pile on the pressure, as Josh Carus went inches wide of the goal, with a dipping shot. Peacock produced a masterful flick into the path of Thacker, whose charge forward was halted by the Norwich United keeper.
With 75 minutes on the clock Ricky Forder played in Peacock whose attempt on goal was blocked by the keeper. The Planters did score a consolation goal to make it 5-1 in injury time when a wonderful cross was neatly headed home.
The game saw a great performance by the A's, before a good number of travelling away supporters who made the short trip along the A47.
