Vital Point In Bid To Avoid Relegation
Acle United put another point on the board as a result of holding Waveney to a 1-1 draw at Bridewell Lane that could still see them avoid relegation to the First Division.
The visitors got the best possible start, when Jarvis surged down the right and from outside the box shot with his left foot that looked to take a deflection before ending up in the bottom corner of the net to put the Suffolk club 1-0 up.
United started to come into the game and it was not long before Simon Peacock levelled matters up as he ran from the halfway line beating two defenders before releasing a shot that curled inside the far post. Debut boy Jagen Crane was showing some nice touches and set Tooley away down the left to earn the A's one of a number of corners.
Luke Thacker was causing problems for the Waveney defence, none more so than when Forder put him in to bring about a fantastic save from the keeper. At the other end Bloom shot well wide of goal when he should have done better.
Acle were now in control of the exchanges as Taylor was booked for kicking the ball away. Peacock was asking a few questions of the Waveney rear-guard and was brought down just outside the box and although Garner's shot was deflected wide,
Acle finished the half on top as they forced a succession of corners. After the break Purton-Turner misjudged a cross that was nodded wide, before a long throw from Mickleburgh presented Foreman with a great chance 5 yards out but his shot was blocked to deny a goal.
A great move saw Foreman play in Crane who in turn found Peacock who shot over the bar. As the half unfolded it was Waveney who began to take control as United were dwelling too long on the ball, as the visitors began to get camped in the Acle half.
Clay should have put them in front but shot wide of an open goal, and Bloomfield missed the target by inches as the Acle defence were given a lot to think about.
Substitute Taylor had a shot from 35 yards out for Acle but all in all the former champions were on the back foot and it took Wiley to save the day as he hooked the ball away as it had beaten Purton-Turner and looked to be heading for the back of the net.
The game finished with Acle hanging on for a precious point in a game of two halves in which both teams held the upper hand, Acle in the first half and Waveney after the break.
